The encounter took place in the Chhatru sector after a collaborative search mission by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on confirmed intelligence about terrorist infiltration. The operation commenced shortly after sunrise. As troops approached the terrorist hideout, they came under heavy and sudden fire, escalating into a prolonged gun battle. The injured paratrooper received immediate medical aid and was airlifted to a Udhampur military medical facility for advanced treatment.
