A Bhopal couple who bonded over their shared love for animals ended their marriage after nine months due to disagreements related to their pets. The couple, including a husband who works in IT and a wife from Uttar Pradesh, initially connected through their shared interest in animals, eventually leading to marriage. Conflict emerged shortly after they moved in together, primarily due to interactions between the husband’s dog and the wife’s cats. The husband stated he hadn’t wanted the wife’s pets at the start of their marriage. The husband also mentioned the cat’s habit of approaching the fish tank, which created tension. Attempts to reconcile through family counseling proved unsuccessful, and the couple proceeded with a divorce. Family counselor Shail Awasthi emphasized the broader issue of increasing isolation within families, where pets sometimes become more important than human relationships. He observed that marriages can fail when neither partner is willing to compromise, reflecting a trend of people believing that pets can replace human connections.
