Tensions over language in Maharashtra have escalated after an incident in Mira Bhayander where a sweet shop owner was assaulted. Seven individuals, suspected of being MNS members, are under investigation by the Kashimira police. The assault occurred because the shop owner spoke Hindi and not Marathi. The incident, captured on video, shows a heated argument that turned violent. The video depicts one man attacking the shop owner, followed by another wearing an MNS stole repeatedly hitting him. The shop owner, Babulal Khimji Chaudhary, reported that the men, who were wearing MNS party symbols, demanded that he and his staff speak Marathi. Chaudhary explained that his workers were not fluent in the language, which led to the confrontation. This event adds to the existing debate about language policy in the state.
