Maharashtra Mourns Polymath Psychiatrist Dr. Nadkarni: Shinde’s Tribute
1 min readMaharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde voiced deep sorrow on the demise of Dr. Anand Nadkarni, eminent psychiatrist and cultural icon, terming it an ‘irreparable loss.’ Through a poignant X post, he celebrated Nadkarni’s extraordinary journey as a psychiatrist, litterateur, poet, playwright, actor, musician, tabla virtuoso, painter, social servant, and philosophical thinker.
A son of Thane known for his vitality and warmth, Nadkarni transformed mental healthcare over 35 years. His Institute for Psychology realized the vision of universal mental health, steadying thousands of lives and supporting their loved ones. With late Dr. Sunanda Avchat, he pioneered Muktangam de-addiction center in Pune, modeling ideal voluntary service.
Creativity defined him too. College-honed skills produced 27 acclaimed books—’Vaidyak Satta,’ ‘Shahanyancha Psychiatrist,’ and others—that provoke introspection. Theater triumphs like ‘Tya Tigancha Gosht’ and ‘Rang Majha Vegla’ enthralled viewers, blending his psychiatric insights with artistry.
Shinde’s tribute captured the shock: an era ends with this versatile genius gone. As Maharashtra reflects on Nadkarni’s legacy, his institutions and works stand as testaments to compassion and talent, inspiring future healers and creators alike.
