The Manipur government has implemented a five-day suspension of internet and mobile data services, encompassing VSAT and VPN, in five districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur, commencing from 11:45 PM on June 7, 2025. This action is a direct response to the prevailing law and order situation. The authorities fear that social media might be exploited to circulate inflammatory content, which could incite violence and disrupt public order. The government’s order aims to prevent the spread of such content on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In addition to the internet shutdown, a curfew has been imposed in Bishnupur, and restrictions have been placed on gatherings in other affected districts.
