Gujarat’s Sanand emerged as the epicenter of India’s semiconductor revolution on Saturday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating Micron Technology’s advanced ATMP unit. In his keynote address, PM Modi described the occasion as a historic testament to India’s tech ascent, building on the momentum from the world’s premier AI summit.
‘From AI showcases to chip production, India is scripting its technology dominance,’ Modi proclaimed. He reminisced about the pre-2010 era when chip discussions were alien, overshadowed by IT dominance. Now, with resolute policy pushes, India is aggressively embedding itself in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
The PM highlighted the project’s breakneck speed: agreements sealed in mid-2023, construction flagged off soon after, pilots running within a year, and commercial rollout today. ‘Clear vision and national loyalty turbocharge decisions,’ he said, noting how this trumps timelines in top economies. Micron’s facility exemplifies India’s holistic strategy, blending bureaucracy efficiency with private sector agility.
Warm felicitations went to Micron’s leadership, Gujarat’s CM Bhupendra Patel, and the engineering brigade. This inauguration not only heralds thousands of high-tech jobs but also signals India’s readiness to capture a slice of the trillion-dollar semiconductor market, fueling self-reliance and export growth amid geopolitical supply chain shifts.
