Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who has been booked in an alleged extortion case and lodged on the Ropar jail, was on Wednesday produced within the district courtroom the place he moved an utility for his medical examination. Five days in the past, the Supreme Court (SC) had ordered the Punjab authorities to switch Ansari’s custody to UP authorities. Punjab authorities has been going through flak for retaining Ansari in state’s jail regardless of UP attempting to acquire his custody.

The district police had filed a chargesheet in opposition to Ansari in an alleged case of extortion on March 10. Ansari was booked by the district police in 2019 after an area builder had alleged that Ansari had allegedly threatened him and demanded cash from him.
