Mumbai: Drunk Husband Arrested for Fatal Beating of Wife in Wadala
1 min readTragedy struck Mumbai’s Wadala on Saturday as 29-year-old Kavita Mahesh Wad lost her life to savage blows from her husband, Mahesh Narayan Wad, amid an alcohol-induced brawl. The Mumbai Police’s decisive action resulted in the accused’s capture, unraveling a pattern of marital strife.
The duo inhabited a modest home by Ganesh Mandir in Ganesh Nagar, where Mahesh’s chronic drinking sowed seeds of discord. His sloshed homecoming that evening precipitated the deadly clash. In a fit of rage, he battered Kavita relentlessly—kicks, punches, and a flung mobile phone shattering her face.
Critically hurt, Kavita’s pleas for help went unheeded as Mahesh dithered, worsening her fate. She blacked out at home before being ferried to KEM Hospital, where medical teams fought a losing battle against her injuries.
The autopsy laid bare the violence’s horror: her frame was riddled with black-and-blue marks from sustained assault. Acting on a complaint from brother Shubham Ramesh Lodi—Navi Mumbai’s Nerul resident and Murud native—Wadala Police invoked BNS Section 103 for murder.
Evading capture initially, Mahesh was rooted out from a relative’s shelter by vigilant officers deploying two task forces. As the probe advances, this incident ignites discourse on combating alcohol dependency and empowering victims of intimate partner violence.
Experts note that prompt aid could have altered the outcome, reinforcing calls for education on recognizing abuse signs. Mahesh’s custody marks a step toward accountability in this grievous loss.
