The scars of Jallianwala Bagh continue to inspire a billion hearts, especially on April 13, when leaders and citizens alike honor the fallen heroes of 1919. President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi spearheaded the national remembrance with eloquent expressions of reverence.

Through her X post, President Murmu bowed to the eternal freedom fighters whose ultimate sacrifice sparked an unquenchable thirst for independence. This pivotal event instilled iron-willed commitment across the land, she observed. ‘The nation remains perpetually thankful,’ she wrote, confident that their devotion will forever motivate selfless national service.

PM Modi’s responses were equally stirring. He portrayed the martyrs’ offering as an emblem of unbreakable human resolve, their fortitude a perennial guide for upholding freedom’s sacred tenets.

In a separate note, he extended profound respects to the massacre’s victims, lauding their bold resistance to imperial savagery. Generations will draw strength from this narrative of dignity and daring, he assured.

PM Modi also invoked a profound Sanskrit subhashita: ‘Indram vardhanto apturah krunvanto vishvamaryam. Apaghnanto aravanah.’ It exhorts the diligent to bolster constructive powers for a thriving, enlightened nation and to vanquish disruptive forces fomenting strife and inequity.

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, didn’t hold back in condemning the British atrocity that targeted peaceful Punjabis, igniting a firestorm of patriotism. It propelled revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh forward, transforming the freedom fight into a mass uprising.

This annual observance isn’t mere ritual; it’s a renewal of vows. The leaders’ messages weave history with contemporary resolve, ensuring the martyrs’ flame of sacrifice illuminates India’s path ahead, fostering unity and progress in the face of adversity.
