Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar has strongly refuted Shiv Sena (UBT)’s serious charges of tampering in local body polls, calling them a sore loser’s tactic. The row stems from lottery draws for mayor posts in multiple cities, notably BMC’s groundbreaking female appointment.
In interactions with journalists, Narwekar defended the system vigorously. ‘The process was crystal clear, with no shortcuts. Opposition parties invent excuses only when they lose,’ he quipped, referencing their flip-flop on EVM reliability.
Praising the BMC outcome, he said, ‘A woman mayor for Mumbai is a milestone that inspires across society.’ This positive note contrasts sharply with the opposition’s narrative of foul play.
Dismissing Sanjay Raut’s assertions, Narwekar demanded evidence: ‘Show who fixed it and how. Their distrust extends to the Constitution itself.’ He portrayed UBT’s reaction as panic after electoral setbacks.
Narwekar also presided over a key session on BMC’s slum demolition notices (No. 1214) for November 2025 end, joined by Gopal Shetty and administrators, signaling proactive city management.
This episode reveals entrenched political rivalries, where victories are celebrated as fair by winners and suspicious by losers. With new mayors in place, focus shifts to tangible civic improvements amid lingering tensions.
