Parliamentary tensions reached a boiling point in New Delhi as NDA MPs condemned opposition moves to dislodge Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, branding it a grave insult to democratic principles. Their relentless disruptions on successive issues, critics argue, prioritize chaos over governance.
Central to the uproar is Minister Kiren Rijiju’s eyewitness account of Congress MPs’ invasion of the Speaker’s office. ‘Around 25 of them entered aggressively, with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal fueling the aggression. Birla’s composure averted a bigger crisis,’ Rijiju stated firmly.
Sanjay Jaiswal of BJP lauded Birla’s commitment to impartiality. ‘He has shunned all party affiliations publicly since assuming the chair. Such smears erode trust in our institutions,’ Jaiswal warned, urging the opposition to uphold dignity.
Jaiswal specifically debunked Rahul Gandhi’s book-related claims, citing denials from ex-Army Chief Naravane and the publisher. ‘These fabrications fool no one; they’re desperate attacks on the BJP,’ he charged.
From JD(U), Sanjay Kumar Jha insisted on accountability. ‘Rahul must retract and apologize. Quoting non-existent content is absurd, as the Speaker clarified. Congress’s opposition has crossed into national disservice,’ Jha critiqued.
Rajasthan’s Madan Rathore painted Rahul as out of touch. ‘Lost in fantasies, he seeks to discredit our PM. Such conduct is utterly reprehensible,’ Rathore declared.
With the session ongoing, this confrontation signals broader rifts, prompting reflections on decorum and the health of India’s parliamentary democracy.
