India’s diplomatic presence in Afghanistan has been significantly strengthened with the immediate upgrade of its Technical Mission in Kabul to the Embassy of India. This move signals a renewed and deepened commitment to bilateral ties.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this action clearly demonstrates India’s intention to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual concern with Afghanistan. The embassy’s enhanced status will facilitate greater support for Afghanistan’s developmental agenda, humanitarian needs, and capacity-building efforts, resonating with the desires of Afghan society.
This diplomatic enhancement was formalized after constructive discussions between India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi during the latter’s visit to New Delhi. Their dialogue covered a broad range of regional issues and bilateral matters.
Minister Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s sovereignty and its people’s developmental aspirations. He stated that the elevation to embassy status is intended to foster closer cooperation, benefiting Afghanistan’s national development and promoting regional stability and resilience.
