Delhi Police’s crackdown on Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib after the AI Summit demonstration has opposition parties up in arms. Leading the charge, RJD MLA Bhai Virendra vouched for the protesters’ actions, insisting they crossed no lines.
Chatting with media in Patna, Virendra stressed the spontaneity of street actions. ‘Protests match the moment; no puppet masters involved. Congress did right, and we support them unequivocally,’ he said, brushing aside conspiracy theories.
Congress legislator Abhishek Ranjan decried the arrest as vendetta politics, hinting at sedition threats for a standard rally. ‘Normal protests shouldn’t lead to jailing national leaders. This poisons our political discourse,’ he observed.
RJD’s Ranvijay Sahu seized the opportunity to slam Bihar’s security apparatus. He highlighted rampant violence, including the gruesome double homicide in Patna and a rape epidemic with 40+ incidents monthly. ‘Nitish Kumar’s silence amid lathi-wielding administration screams complicity in crime,’ Sahu charged.
Virendra didn’t spare the handling of watchmen and dafadars’ stir either. Labeling the lathi assault on peaceful agitators as brutal, he sought punishment for culprits and swift redressal of their core issues like pay and rights.
With arrests fueling outrage, Bihar’s opposition is rallying against perceived authoritarianism, promising intensified scrutiny on both national and state fronts.
