General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, recently declared that synergy is the bedrock of the Indian armed forces’ strength, pointing to ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a perfect illustration. Speaking during the induction ceremony for INS Mahe, a new indigenous shallow-water combat craft, Dwivedi stressed that coordinated actions across all operational domains are essential for the nation’s security. He posited that in an era defined by multi-domain operations, India’s ability to operate as a unified entity, from the ocean floor to the highest peaks, will dictate its security standing. Operation Sindoor, a military response to terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, was cited as a prime instance of this crucial synergy. The Army Chief underlined the ‘trinity’ of India’s strategic strength formed by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and the importance of integration within the Army’s modernization efforts. He also lauded the Indian Navy’s expanding role in diplomacy and its long-standing collaborative relationship with the Army, particularly in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, anticipating a future where the Navy is a dominant, networked maritime power.
