Operation Sindoor Success: BrahMos Leads the Way, Says Defence Secretary

In Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces successfully utilized a mix of both foreign-origin and indigenously-produced weapons, according to Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The operation’s primary objective was to target terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan. Singh specifically emphasized the crucial role of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, terming it a game-changer. He further acknowledged the cohesive coordination of various weapon systems and the exceptional teamwork of the armed forces. The Defence Secretary also underscored the outstanding performance of indigenous weapons, including the BrahMos and Akash, as well as improvements to air defense systems to counter threats like drones. He emphasized the Indian Armed Forces’ preparedness. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. Furthermore, the Defence Secretary addressed the growth of the defence budget, the challenges in budget absorption, and the increase in contract signings, indicating significant growth in India’s defence production since the launch of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
