The Patiala district of Punjab is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating double suicide. The tragic event unfolded after Gurmeet Singh took his own life, under the mistaken belief that his wife, Manpreet Kaur, had abandoned him and their three children. Unaware of the truth, Gurmeet’s decision was spurred by the belief that his wife had eloped. The reality was even more heartbreaking, as Manpreet had already died by suicide, reportedly due to persistent marital conflicts. She had taken the children to a Gurdwara before disappearing on June 29th. Gurmeet’s body was found at home on July 3rd, while Manpreet’s body was retrieved from a canal. The couple’s children are now orphaned. In a separate case, authorities in Jharkhand are investigating the deaths of a young couple in a forested area.
