Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur in May 2023, his first trip after the ethnic violence. Due to heavy rain upon his arrival in Imphal on Saturday, he couldn’t take a helicopter to Churachandpur. Instead, he traveled by road to the Kuki-dominated area. In Churachandpur, PM Modi assured the people of the central government’s commitment to peace and prosperity in the state. The road journey from Imphal took about one and a half hours. PM Modi decided to travel by road to interact with the public. The Prime Minister described the experience as memorable. Addressing the gathering in Churachandpur, PM Modi called Manipur a land of hope and aspiration. He stated that he met with some affected people, adding that he now believes a new dawn of hope and faith is breaking in Manipur. He emphasized the need for peace for development, citing the resolution of conflicts in the Northeast. He urged all groups to choose peace. The Prime Minister talked about the progress in Manipur. He inaugurated projects worth over ₹7,300 crore. PM Modi said that he would never forget the love he received during his road journey. During his visit, PM Modi met with those displaced by the ethnic violence. He listened to their problems, demonstrating the government’s commitment to address their needs.
