Police remand of accused in Gorakhnath temple assault prolonged until April 16

GORAKHPUR: An area courtroom on Monday prolonged the police remand of Gorakhnath temple assault accused Murtaza Abbasi until April 16.

Abbasi was introduced earlier than the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad together with Shahpur police urged the courtroom to increase his police remand. His week-long remand ended on Monday.

“ATS and Shahpur police collectively appealed the courtroom for the extension of police remand of Murtaza Abbasi. The ACJM courtroom prolonged the remand for 5 extra days, stating that it’s essential for investigation.

“The magistrate has extended the remand till April 16,” senior lawyer PK Dubey advised reporters right here. On April 3 night, Abbasi, an IIT graduate, attacked two policemen with a sharp-edged weapon at a gate of the famed Gorakhnath temple right here and tried to barge into the premises earlier than being overpowered.

The assault occurred on the temple which is underneath excessive safety as it’s often visited by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who’s the pinnacle seer.

Abbasi was arrested and remanded in police custody for 2 weeks, police had stated and alleged that he tried to forcibly enter the temple whereas elevating a non secular slogan.

His father Munir Abbasi stated Murtaza belonged to the 2015 batch of IIT-Mumbai and was a chemical engineer.

In an earlier assertion issued, the UP Home Department had stated, “The attack on police jawans at Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur is a part of deep conspiracy and, based on the available facts, it can be said that it was a terror incident.”
