The release of a new NCERT module has led to a political uproar, with the BJP and Congress trading accusations regarding the causes of India’s partition. The module attributes the partition to Jinnah, the Congress, and Mountbatten, a perspective challenged by the Congress, which points to the RSS, Hindu Mahasabha, and Muslim League as the main culprits. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia responded by accusing the Congress of being disturbed by the historical facts. He highlighted the inclusion of partition details in the textbooks, which he claimed were upsetting to the ‘Rahul-Jinnah’ party. Bhatia contended that the shared perspectives between Rahul Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah are evident. At a press conference, Bhatia argued that the partition was based on religion, with Jinnah’s appeasement policies influencing the Congress. He also mentioned the Congress’s support for religious-based reservations, similar to Jinnah’s views, and their advocacy for Sharia law. Bhatia questioned why the Congress was uneasy about the partition details in the curriculum. Moreover, he criticized the Congress and the ‘fake Gandhi family’ for criticizing the RSS, an organization that has a proven track record of preserving India’s heritage. He also brought up the historical fact that Jawaharlal Nehru himself had invited the RSS to participate in the Republic Day parade in 1963.
