NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested Bhim Sena chief Nawab Satpal Tanwar for threatening and saying a bounty of Rs one crore on now-removed BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma over her remarks on Prophet Mohammad, officers stated on Friday.
Tanwar was arrested on Thursday from Gurugram in Haryana, they stated.
The statements of former BJP office-bearers Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal on Prophet Muhammad have sparked an enormous controversy which has led to violent protests in a number of elements of the nation.
The police stated Tanwar had posted a video wherein he introduced a bounty of Rs one crore on Sharma for her remarks and was making an attempt to gasoline communal disharmony.
Recently, varied handles on Twitter and different social media platforms have been posting supplies which was spreading hate and was in opposition to the upkeep of public tranquillity, the police stated in an official assertion, including that they obtained additionally varied complaints on this regard.
On the premise of complaints and suo-motto social media evaluation, the Delhi Police registered 19 FIRs beneath varied sections of the Indian Penal Code, it stated.
In one such case, Tanwar, who claimed to be the chief of Bhim Sena, having a number of Twitter handles and Facebook profile, posted a video wherein he introduced a bounty of Rs one crore on Sharma and was making an attempt to gasoline communal disharmony, the assertion acknowledged.
An FIR was registered on this connection and the investigation was taken up.
Since the registration of the FIR, Tanwar was making an attempt to cover in numerous elements of north India starting from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, police stated, including that he was arrested from Gurugram.
Tanwar claimed that he had some medical points for which he was medically examined following which he was despatched to judicial custody, the assertion acknowledged.
