CHANDIGARH: Sunil Jakhar, Punjab BJP chief, accused AAP and Congress on Thursday of a calculated conspiracy to obscure the state’s critical concerns by disseminating falsehoods against the Union government and BJP. In a border state like Punjab, he warned, this could have severe repercussions.

Jakhar criticized both parties for their smear campaign, citing CM Bhagwant Mann’s admission of receiving Rs 13,000 crore in calamity aid from the Centre – spending just Rs 477 crore while predecessors reportedly misused funds. He questioned the CM’s tardiness in verifying records.

Turning to Congress, Jakhar noted their role as AAP’s parliamentary guardians despite Mann’s charges of fund abuse. ‘As opposition, they’re a non-starter – voices sold or crippled by prior scams,’ he said.

Jakhar presented data to refute the narrative: UPA agri allocation Rs 21,933 crore vs. BJP’s Rs 1.30 lakh crore; PM-Kisan transfers of Rs 4.27 lakh crore; fertilizer support escalated to Rs 1.77 lakh crore from Rs 18,460 crore.

He challenged Mann: ‘Draft agri policy ready since Oct 2023 – why no rollout? Addressing flaws?’ Jakhar stressed prioritizing farmer policies and state development over divisive tactics, calling for unity against real threats.
