Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s upcoming visit to Mizoram and Tripura signals a major boost for higher education in the Northeast. Over March 7-8, he will chief-guest the delayed convocations of Mizoram University and Tripura University, addressing gatherings of proud graduates and dignitaries.
First stop: Mizoram University’s 20th convocation in Aizawl on March 7. Postponed for 2024 and 2025, it will celebrate 283 gold medalists and 149 new PhDs. Local IAS officer Khilli Ram Meena spearheaded a preparatory meeting, hashing out logistics and protocols with key stakeholders to guarantee flawless proceedings.
March 8 brings Radhakrishnan to Tripura University’s 14th event at Suryamaninagar campus outside Agartala, where he will formally open festivities. Joining him are heavyweights like Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and Chancellor Ahmad Javed. Pre-event huddles at Raj Bhavan involved Acting VC Shyamal Das and Acting Registrar Samir Kumar Shil, aligning on every detail with the Governor.
Tracing roots to 1987 and central status since 2007 via parliamentary act, the university oversees 64 affiliated colleges today. The Centre’s Education Ministry is fast-tracking a permanent VC hire. This dual-visit not only honors scholastic triumphs but also spotlights infrastructure growth and policy focus on Northeast’s talent pool, fostering optimism for tomorrow’s innovators.
