Gandhi told Pagare, “Mama, don’t be afraid, we are with you.” He added that Balasaheb Thorat had informed him about the situation. Gandhi acknowledged Pagare’s 50 years of service to the Congress, expressing his pride in his dedication. Pagare responded emotionally, asking Gandhi to visit him in Mumbai. The incident has ignited significant discussion, extending beyond the local area to affect state and national politics, causing considerable anger among Congress workers. The incident stemmed from Pagare’s sharing of an altered image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following this, BJP officials allegedly compelled him to wear a sari on a street in Dombivli. Rahul Gandhi received information about the event from Maharashtra Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat, leading to his personal interaction with Pagare. Gandhi assured the hospitalized Dalit leader of the party’s unwavering support. Pagare expressed his hope that Rahul Gandhi will visit him in Mumbai. The Kalyan police are investigating the matter and have filed an FIR. Pagare’s statement was recorded in the hospital where he mentioned he immediately contacted Balasaheb Thorat who informed Rahul Gandhi of the incident and then spoke with Pagare.
