In a floral triumph, Himachal Pradesh’s pioneering Tulip Garden at CSIR-IHBT in Palampur has seen over 70,000 tourists flock to its vibrant displays against the Dhauladhar backdrop. As the region’s first and nation’s second post-Kashmir, it’s redefining hill station attractions.
Celebrating four years, the garden – flung open on February 10 – is on track for 1.5 lakh visitors, eclipsing past peaks beyond one lakh.
CSIR-IHBT Director Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav revealed, ‘More than 70,000 have visited till now. This season could be our biggest yet.’
Enthralled guests share the buzz: ‘A stunning initiative that puts Palampur on the map,’ noted one. The odyssey kicked off in 2018 via Holland-sourced bulbs, advancing to indigenous breeding for bulb and bloom yields.
Commercial cultivation trials highlight the garden’s role in viable high-altitude farming. Developed solely with desi tulips, it proudly follows Kashmir’s Indira Gandhi Memorial as India’s tulip beacon.
This surge signals booming eco-tourism in Himachal, blending science, beauty, and economy into a perennial draw.
