The authorities departments will be unable to resume the registration of their autos older than 15 years from April 1, 2022, if a proposal on this regard issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is finalised. It has sought the stakeholders’ feedback to amend associated guidelines on this regard issuing a notification.
Once accredited, this will likely be relevant to all authorities autos – central or state governments, union territories, PSUs, municipal and autonomous our bodies, as per the notification.
“From April 1, 2022, government departments will not be able to renew the certificate of registration of their vehicles, after 15 years. This will apply to all government – central, state, UT, PSUs, municipal bodies & autonomous bodies,” the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways stated in a tweet.
The growth comes shut on the heels of the voluntary automobile scrapping coverage introduced within the Union Budget on February 1 for 2021-22 which offers for health check after 20 years for private autos whereas business autos would require it after the completion of 15 years.
Notification of the draft guidelines has been issued to this impact on March 12 by the ministry searching for feedback, objections and options from the stakeholders inside thirty days.
The certificates of registration shall not be renewed after the lapse of 15 years for presidency autos, it stated.

Presenting the Budget for 2021-22 in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 had introduced automobile scrapping coverage.
Road, Transport, Highways and MSMEs Minister Nitin Gadkari had stated that originally one crore autos will go for scrapping and the coverage will result in new investments of round Rs 10,000 crore and create as many as 50,000 jobs.
These previous autos are estimated to trigger 10-12 instances extra air pollution than the newest autos.
The authorities had earlier stated it plans to impose a inexperienced tax on previous polluting autos quickly in a bid to guard the surroundings and curb air pollution whereas autos like sturdy hybrids, electrical autos and people operating on alternate fuels like CNG, ethanol and LPG will likely be exempted.
The income collected by the inexperienced tax will likely be utilised for tackling air pollution.
Under the scheme, transport autos older than eight years might be charged inexperienced tax on the time of renewal of health certificates on the price of 10-25 per cent of street tax, as per inexperienced tax proposal despatched to states for consultations after cleared by the ministry.
