Empowerment meets festivity in Burhanpur, where the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission has launched a dynamic two-day Aajeevika Holi Mela on February 27-28, 2026, right at the old SDM office. Designed to uplift rural women via self-help groups, the fair is drawing enthusiastic crowds keen on sustainable celebrations.
Vibrant stalls overflow with meticulously crafted herbal gulal from natural sources, petal-infused colors, and artisanal home products. The response has been overwhelming, with residents prioritizing these safe, superior alternatives for Holi.
The women behind the stalls radiated confidence. Their natural, chemical-free ranges safeguard skin health, a stark contrast to market synthetics. They hailed PM Modi’s programs for igniting self-reliance and the ‘Vocal for Local’ ethos.
Jainu Tadvi’s testimonial was heartfelt: ‘Heartfelt thanks to PM Modi for our independence. We’re strong now, selling chemical-free herbal gulal and manure at our spot.’
Rajni Verma shared her evolution: ‘Idle days are over; now we craft and sell safe flower colors, earning respect and income. Thanks to PM Modi and the group.’
Tawati Khalko, Aajeevika Mission’s district head, outlined the broader vision: ‘This mela furthers ‘Vocal for Local’ dreams of our leaders. Our didis’ herbal gulal, pichkaris, and products are for sale. Lakhpati Didi is our target.’
Addressing Holi hazards, she noted, ‘Chemical gulal harms skin, but our flower-based versions from palash, marigold, and roses are benign.’ This fair exemplifies grassroots innovation, blending tradition with modernity to foster prosperous, healthy communities.
