Safe Drinking Water Reaches All Agartala Areas: CM Saha
1 min readChief Minister Manik Saha’s address in the Tripura Assembly painted an optimistic picture for Agartala’s residents: safe, treated drinking water now blankets all 51 AMC wards, courtesy of cutting-edge treatment and iron-removal infrastructure.
In the budget session update, he praised the resilient urban water framework, anchored by 31 specialized iron-removal plants delivering purity at scale.
Strategic builds since 2018, such as Master Para’s 5.50 MLD and College Tilla’s 3 MLD plants, have supercharged supply volumes.
Tackling occasional contamination concerns, Saha attributed them to collateral damage from essential projects like roadworks, cable and pipeline deployments, and sewer construction. ‘Swift interventions restore flow without delay,’ he reassured.
Such issues are short-lived, resolved by prompt departmental action. AMC’s ‘Clean Your Tank’ campaign is a game-changer, teaching safe storage to prevent health risks.
Managed by Tripura Water Board’s DWS Division, Agartala, with sub-supports, the system runs on 13 surface treatment setups, 31 modernized iron plants, and six portable units for consistent delivery.
Sourcing breakdown: 25% from surface waters like Howrah River, 75% groundwater needing de-ironing. With 60.60% groundwater safely tappable per Central Board data—but only 10.06% exploited—sustainability is key.
Population of 5.79 lakh translates to 78.22 million liters daily need per AMRUT (135 LPCD). Many rely on personal tubewells too.
Under ‘Amrit Mitra,’ SHG members are the frontline warriors, testing water home-by-home and advocating tank cleanings twice yearly. Saha’s comprehensive strategy heralds enduring water wellness for the city.
