The DGCA held a crucial meeting with senior officials from Air India and Air India Express, which jointly manage over 1,000 daily flights. The meeting was designed to assess operational readiness and to ensure that the airlines were following all safety standards and passenger service regulations. Seven key areas were discussed during the meeting, all focused on maintaining regulatory compliance and enhancing operational reliability. The meeting also looked into recent operational data for Air India’s wide-body operations, with a particular focus on the Boeing 787 fleet. Between June 12th and June 17th, 2025, a total of 83 flights in Air India’s wide-body operations were cancelled, with 66 involving Boeing 787 aircraft. The DGCA recommended the implementation of a more systematic and real-time defect reporting mechanism to facilitate timely updates for operational and safety-critical departments. The discussions took place in the wake of the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12th, which resulted in 270 fatalities.
