This article commemorates the death anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, India’s first. His service in the Indian Army lasted four decades, most notably during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war. Manekshaw, born in Amritsar, had a brother who became an Air Vice Marshal. He participated in five wars throughout his career. He passed away at 94 in Tamil Nadu.
