The ribbon has been cut on Samba’s third Basantar River bridge, a gleaming addition to Jammu and Kashmir’s highway system now welcoming vehicles with open arms. This completion heralds an era of fluid traffic movement, directly tackling the chaos that defined the district’s key routes.

In the past, Sidco Chowk symbolized commuter hell—prolonged jams stifled commerce and personal routines, compounded by a rash of accidents branding it a prime black spot. The bridge’s activation is forecasted to lighten these burdens substantially, ensuring swifter and safer passage.

It anchors a ambitious Rs 171.25 crore NH-44 enhancement program, featuring black spot fixes between Sidco Chowk and Gole Mela-Sangur, Samba’s underpass-service road combo, and upgraded facilities at strategic stops including Jhajar Kotli, Kazi Gund, and Marhama.

Locals are jubilant. ‘Relief at last from accident central,’ said one. Vikas Dongra enthused, ‘Long-demanded amid jam marathons and daily wrecks, this bridge delivers safe, easy rides.’

Beyond immediate gains, the initiative reflects strategic foresight in infrastructure. Samba stands to gain from invigorated business, shorter travel spans, and a safer motoring environment, setting a benchmark for regional development.
