Sangma Hails CM Connect as Key to Democratic Governance in Meghalaya
1 min readMeghalaya’s push towards inclusive administration took center stage as Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma addressed the ‘Chief Minister Connect’ consultation at Shillong’s U Soso Tham Auditorium. The Urban Affairs Department-led event, supported by the Shillong Municipal Board, gathered a diverse crowd including the deputy chief minister, officials, local representatives, leaders, artists, and citizens.
Sangma portrayed the platform as essential for sustained citizen input, declaring, ‘Democracy works when governments stay connected to people.’ He advocated revisiting decisions based on public feedback, positioning the session primarily as an opportunity to listen.
Evolving from demands for structured redressal, CM Connect leverages the 1971 call center for logging, routing, and dashboard-tracked complaint resolutions. Sangma spotlighted urban pain points—垃圾 management, roads, infrastructure—and appealed for collaborative solutions within departmental limits.
Future enhancements include merging with MLA and District Collector Connects for localized efficacy. Deputy CM Dhar lauded the collaborative spirit involving youth, departments, traditions, and communities.
Cultural flair came via the ‘Chief Minister Artist Engagement Scheme’ launch, with Rs 20,000 checks handed to artists for promoting murals and street art statewide. The municipal board’s ‘Locality Grading’ drive will assess areas on cleanliness and sustainability, rewarding leaders with cash.
This initiative exemplifies accountable leadership, fostering trust and efficiency in Meghalaya’s governance landscape.
