Veteran Maharashtra leader Sharad Pawar addressed a packed press meet in Baramati today, quashing rumors of an imminent NCP factions’ reunion. The NCP (SP) supremo stressed that current priorities lie in family cohesion and aiding the bereaved, sidelining political maneuvers for now.
Pawar’s warm words for Sunetra Pawar’s elevation to Deputy Chief Minister highlighted familial unity. ‘It brings me joy that Sunetra Pawar has sworn in as Deputy CM. Our family remains as one,’ he declared, grounding the conference in personal resilience.
Directly tackling merger buzz, Pawar was forthright: ‘Our focus is completely on tending to all and advancing with the grieving. Political decisions haven’t been discussed at all.’ This comes against Maharashtra’s backdrop of alliance shifts and power plays.
Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s House speech citing ex-Army Chief Naravane, Pawar supported democratic expression. ‘Naravane led our Army. Raising his statements or writings in Parliament is the opposition’s right—they should get their say. Proper debate would clarify everything for citizens.’
Pawar turned analytical on the India-US trade negotiations. ‘Expect a clear outline in 2-3 days, enabling thorough review. Available details suggest US gains in agribusiness exports, raising alarms for Indian interests,’ he pointed out.
‘With its economic dominance, America’s foray into vital farm goods exports will pressure other countries’ agricultures and farmers. We must prevent this from affecting India’s vital sector,’ Pawar warned, leveraging his farmer-centric legacy.
Reflecting on Ajit Pawar’s passing, he implored, ‘A sad event—no room for politics. I’ve surveyed Baramati accident scenes myself; I know the area well. Purely an accident.’ Pawar’s call underscores humanity over hype in local tragedies.
