A government servant’s final days turned into a nightmare, culminating in suicide at his workplace in Pavagada, Karnataka – just seven days before retirement. The incident, marked by a damning video accusation against a senior, has rocked the Social Welfare Department.

Identified as Mallikarjun, the Assistant Director lived in nearby Gundaralahalli and had served loyally for three years. His entry into service was poignant: appointed compassionately after his father, a fellow department employee, died shortly before retirement.

In a video shared with coworkers, Mallikarjun unleashed his pain, targeting Joint Director Krishnappa for severe mental harassment. ‘My family has been my everything – mother, wife, children. Their support fueled my pride, but I couldn’t fulfill my duties due to this man’s cruelty,’ he revealed.

He prophesied, ‘Both God and the law will hold Krishnappa accountable. Let my family be at peace.’

Pavagada authorities are conducting a meticulous inquiry, piecing together timelines and verifying claims. The familial parallel – father and son both perishing near career’s end – suggests possible institutional issues warranting deeper scrutiny.

Karnataka has seen similar horrors: Shivamogga’s 48-year-old Accounts Superintendent Chandrashekaran P ended it all on May 26, 2024, with notes detailing forced illegal transactions by colleagues.

As probes unfold, calls grow for overhaul – robust grievance mechanisms, mental health programs, and zero-tolerance for abuse. Mallikarjun’s tragedy isn’t just personal; it’s a siren for reforming workplaces where loyalty meets despair.
