Tension gripped Bulandshahr’s Anupshahr on Sunday night as a routine police patrol turned into a fierce gun battle, resulting in the arrest of Rs 50,000 bounty criminal Vinod Sharma. The SWAT team and Anupshahr police were screening suspects at the bus depot when a motorcycle rider bolted upon approach.

The pursuit snaked through Sambhal Road until the rider crashed near a cemetery. Trapped, he unleashed shots from his pistol, met with effective counterfire from constables that felled him with a leg injury. Sharma was swiftly detained on site.

Hailing from Jakheta in Shikarpur, the 2007 court-escapee has evaded capture despite multiple murder charges and over eight cases. Nagar Kotwali holds the FIR for his dramatic breakout. Recovered evidence: a firearm, cartridges, and bike.

Hospitalized and stable, Sharma’s downfall is hailed as a triumph by CO Vikas Chauhan. The crack team—featuring SHO Dharmendra Kumar Sharma, Inspectors Rajveer Singh and Harsh Mishra, plus SWAT leader Mohammad Aslam—executed flawlessly.

As investigations continue, this incident highlights the dangers officers face daily and the effectiveness of coordinated anti-crime strategies in curbing hardened offenders.
