Suvendu Hits Back: Mamata’s Eid Speech Exposes Her Communal Side
1 min readTensions soared in West Bengal politics as Suvendu Adhikari, the state’s opposition chief, on Sunday labeled Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ‘communal’ following her provocative Eid gathering on Kolkata’s Red Road. Banerjee used the platform to assail BJP and PM Modi, reiterating her commitment to Bengal’s populace with state elections set for April 23 and 29.
Campaigning in his stronghold Nandigram, Adhikari told reporters, ‘Mamata’s the communal one. Namaz belongs to Islam adherents. She’s no Muslim—women’s prayers are segregated.’ He slammed her for politicizing religion.
Pointing to the Khilafat Committee’s program, he criticized her ‘infiltrator’ jibe at the PM: ‘Religious venues demand decorum. I attend without urging BJP votes or decrying the CM.’
Adhikari touted BJP’s Muslim inroads: ‘Support surges. Eid celebrants from Halida joined me; 50+ young Muslims here now.’ He linked it to job scarcity—30,000 Nandigram youths migrate, including 18,000 Muslims, 3,000+ in Maharashtra.
‘Realization hits: TMC’s 2021 NRC was vote-grabbing fakery. No Hindu, Muslim, or soul backs Mamata today,’ he declared. His campaign, he framed personally: ‘Nandigram’s my turf; BJP fields me again. We’re inseparable.’ This clash previews a high-stakes electoral showdown.
