Uttarakhand’s legal corridors turned into high-alert zones Monday when courts in Ramnagar and Nainital got bomb threat emails. Falsely attributed to the ‘All India Judges Association,’ the correspondence boasted of 12 RDX bombs and IEDs hidden in judicial chambers, with a stern order to vacate immediately.
The threat hit multiple recipients, including Nainital’s District Judge, and oddly demanded stopping EWS reservations in Tamil Nadu. The administration wasted no time, deploying extensive resources to neutralize the danger.
Courts in Ramnagar, Nainital, and Haldwani were swiftly locked down. Police swarmed the sites, ushering out lawyers, clerks, and visitors. Bomb squads and sniffer dogs methodically scanned courtrooms, judge rooms, attorney spaces, and surrounding grounds.
Intensive probes through the afternoon and evening found zero threats, averting potential disaster. Yet, the scare halted all hearings, transforming bustling courthouses into ghost towns under heavy guard.
Veteran counsel Himanshu Agarwal highlighted the gravity with which security apparatus responded. Digital sleuths are now hunting the email’s source amid promises of rigorous follow-up.
Senior police spokespersons detailed the clean sweep but stressed ongoing vigilance. With a crack team investigating, the culprits face imminent capture, restoring faith in the system’s resilience.
