Top Punjab Police Official Caught Taking Bribe by CBI

Harcharan Bhullar, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Ropar range in Punjab, has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on corruption charges. The apprehension occurred during a significant operation where Bhullar was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe. The CBI’s action followed a complaint that initiated a detailed investigation, leading to searches at various premises connected to the DIG. Reports suggest that the arrested official had a history of accepting bribes, operating a system for illicit financial gains. The specific incident involved the acceptance of ₹5 lakh from a complainant hailing from Fatehgarh Sahib. The complainant revealed that the DIG had solicited a large sum to settle a case and had arranged for the initial installment to be paid at his Mohali office. Following this information, the CBI conducted an immediate raid, resulting in Bhullar’s arrest at the scene. Searches were also conducted at Bhullar’s homes in Ropar and Chandigarh as part of the ongoing investigation into this bribery case. The CBI had reportedly been monitoring potential corruption for approximately ten days leading up to the arrest.
