A quiet night turned into a nightmare for residents of a Goregaon West housing society as a fierce fire claimed three lives. The deceased, a couple and their adult son, were trapped inside their apartment as flames blocked the main exit. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as other residents evacuated the building using the staircases. Fire officials stated that while the blaze was contained to a single flat, the toxic fumes proved fatal for those inside. The bodies have been sent to a local hospital for post-mortem examination. Local political leaders visited the site this morning, promising compensation to the next of kin and calling for stricter enforcement of fire safety norms in the suburban district.
