CHENNAI: TVK’s top strategist KA Sengottayan dropped a bombshell on Wednesday, confirming his candidacy from Gobi Chettipalayam for Tamil Nadu’s 2026 legislative polls, with nomination set for February 6.
The reveal, made after opening a fresh party hub in Vellankovil, highlights TVK’s focus on fortifying its footprint in the state’s west.
In interactions with grassroots leaders, Sengottayan highlighted ongoing cadre-building efforts, positioning TVK as a serious 2026 contender.
He swiftly countered narratives of TVK members at an AIADMK Rasipuram meet, revealing them as AIADMK loyalists waving TVK banners mischievously. ‘Our growth is people-powered, not poached,’ he stressed.
On the Vijay dance controversy from the third foundation day, Sengottayan called it a heartfelt devotee-driven moment, questioning why peers escape similar scrutiny.
Reiterating loyalty to Vijay, he previewed a major state tour. Baseless cash accusations from Dindigul Srinivasan drew sharp rebuke, with calls for evidence-based discourse.
Evading queries on coalitions, he framed quietude as chess-like prudence. To Sitharaman’s BJP assurance, he retorted that ballots, not statements, validate strength.
Sengottayan’s move injects fresh energy into TVK’s campaign, potentially disrupting vote arithmetic in Gobi Chettipalayam and beyond, as the party aims to claim its space in Tamil Nadu’s fiercely contested arena.
