The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is again calling on parents and guardians to ensure the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) is completed for children who have reached the age of seven but have not yet updated their Aadhaar biometric information. This update is vital to ensure children can easily access services like school admissions, exams, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. According to UIDAI, an updated Aadhaar, containing current biometric details, is essential for seamless service availability. Children under five are initially enrolled with only photographs and demographic information; biometrics are not captured at that age. The first biometric update, which should be performed between the ages of 5 and 7, is offered free of charge. An update fee of Rs 100 applies after the age of 7. Failing to update biometrics within the given timeframe could lead to Aadhaar deactivation, potentially impacting access to associated services. The authority highlights that timely updates are crucial for maintaining the accuracy and dependability of a child’s Aadhaar data, which is used for identification in government programs and institutions.
