UP Police drops ‘promoting enmity’ cost in opposition to vendor who bought footwear written ‘Thakur’ on soles

A day after registering a case in opposition to a roadside vendor in Uttar Pradesh for promoting footwear that had “Thakur” written on it, the Bulandshahr police on Wednesday dropped the IPC Section 153A from the FIR, which pertains to selling enmity between teams and doing acts prejudicial to upkeep of concord.
The vendor, Nasir, was booked following a criticism by an area resident, Vishal Chauhan, that the footwear being bought by him had the phrase “Thakur” written on it.

Initially, an FIR was lodged underneath IPC Sections 153A (selling enmity between teams and doing acts prejudicial to upkeep of concord), 504 (intentional insult to impress breach of peace), 323 (voluntarily inflicting damage), in keeping with officers.

However, on Wednesday, Bulandshahr police mentioned Section 153A had been eliminated after investigation revealed that allegations of selling enmity on grounds of faith and caste in opposition to Nasir have been “false”.
The assertion additional mentioned Nasir was delivered to the police station just for interrogation and wasn’t arrested. “He was let off Tuesday after preliminary investigation found that case was a ‘scuffle’ between Chauhan and Nasir,” police mentioned.
The incident and the police motion drew sharp criticism from some social media customers.
Responding to the reactions, the district police mentioned on Twitter: “Had the police not taken the action as per the legal system, many people would have reacted differently or in the wrong way (ulti ya bhinn pratikriya dete). Hence, the police have followed the rules and please look at it in the same way.”
Meanwhile, Narendra Trilokani, proprietor of Thakur Footwear Company mentioned footwear bought by Nasir had nothing to do along with his agency.
