A heartfelt proposal to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee surfaced in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Friday, with Leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak calling for the rechristening of Lucknow’s Indian Railway Transport Institute Management (IRTIM).
Pathak’s Rule 111 notice spotlighted the double-engine government’s railway revolution: 157+ stations under Amrit Bharat redevelopment, world-class upgrades at key junctions like Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi, plus aggressive high-speed rail initiatives, new broad-gauge networks, and momentum on Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro.
As the nodal center for IRTS and IRMS training, the institute has excelled over 18 years, boasting a prestigious four-star ‘Outstanding’ accreditation. Notably, Vajpayee laid its foundation on January 31, 2001, and opened it on May 21, 2003.
Aligning with Vajpayee’s centenary celebrations, this renaming to ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Railway Transport Management National Academy’ would honor his pivotal role in rail infrastructure. Pathak urged swift action from the state to submit the proposal centrally, cementing a legacy of progress and vision.
