Celebrating International Women’s Day in Tripura, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan honored SHG women as the ‘silent architects’ behind rural India’s growth story. From the International Trade and Fair Centre in Hapnia, he shared insights with these women, recognizing central and state initiatives for gender empowerment.
India’s journey under PM Modi’s stewardship has evolved dramatically—from women-centric development to women-driven progress. SHGs have emerged as key vehicles for empowerment, instilling confidence and enabling women to contribute meaningfully to the economy.
Spotlighting the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ program, Radhakrishnan revealed 10 crore SHG-linked women across India, over 2 crore of whom are now Lakhpatis. Tripura’s visionary target of 1.35 lakh reflects its commitment to financial independence for women.
He spotlighted ‘Namo Drone Didi’, where village women learn drone technology for farming efficiency. Landmark schemes like housing, water supply, and clean cooking fuel have brought tangible improvements to women’s lives.
With women advancing in education, business, and finance, the Vice President foresaw many evolving into Crorepati Didis, fortifying personal and national prosperity. ‘Empowered women strengthen families, and robust families make nations unconquerable,’ he emphasized.
Radhakrishnan inspected stalls displaying handcrafted goods, local delicacies, weaves, and innovations from district SHGs. His appreciation underscored their talent and drive. Attendees included the Governor, CM, assembly members, bureaucrats, and SHG participants.
