Around 150 protesters and 15 policemen have been injured after Left and Congress activists have been prevented from reaching the Nabanna state secretariat in Howrah, leading to clashes at a number of locations in Kolkata. The police mentioned 42 protesters have been arrested and one other 38 hospitalised.
Calling the police motion “excessive”, Left Front Chairman Biman Basu, on behalf of the Left and Congress, determined to carry a 12-hour statewide strike on Friday.
Led by youth and scholar wings of each events, the march in direction of Nabanna was aimed to focus on schooling for all and lack of jobs, and protest the “anti-farmer” stance of the BJP-led Central authorities.
