Will not implement CAA, reiterates Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Saturday reiterated that his authorities wouldn’t implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), saying his authorities wouldn’t favour such an “unfortunate situation” within the state.
His comment comes days after Home Minister Amit Shah stated the method of granting citizenship to refugees below the CAA would start after the method of Covid-19 vaccination ends. Shah had stated the implementation of the regulation needed to be saved in abeyance on account of the pandemic.
“The country’s home minister recently said that the CAA will be implemented after the completion of the vaccination process. We have made our stand very clear. This government will not favour such an unfortunate situation in the state. We will not stand with it and we will not implement it,” stated Vijayan on the inauguration of the LDF’s northern area yatra in Uppala in Kasaragod district forward of Assembly elections later this summer season.
“Some people asked us, ‘how can you claim, as a government, that you won’t implement it?’ To them, I will say that if we said we will not implement it, we will not do it,” he added.
The Citizenship Amendment Act seeks to supply Indian citizenship to spiritual minorities, besides Muslims, from India’s three Muslim-majority neighbouring international locations — Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
