Imphal’s Khuman Lampak Sports Complex transformed into a hub of activity on March 8, as SAI’s North East Centre launched the Imphal edition of ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ to mark International Women’s Day. Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam kicked off the race, drawing cheers from a lively crowd of participants.
Post-event, the minister shared insights with reporters, framing the initiative as a vital tool for promoting active living and the broader Fit India agenda. ‘Every Indian must stay fit for our nation’s growth,’ he asserted, crediting government programs for elevating fitness consciousness.
He wished all on Women’s Day and encouraged sustained involvement in wellness pursuits. Boxing star and Arjuna awardee Laishram Sarita Devi echoed these sentiments, calling for gender parity and personal health vigilance. ‘Society thrives when women are healthy and empowered; care for yourself and your loved ones,’ she advised.
Regional director Dhandapani C celebrated the event’s success, noting enthusiastic participation from cycling groups. Athletes, security forces, and enthusiasts alike pedaled in unison, broadcasting a clear call for a fitter populace.
This gathering not only honored women but also ignited a community-wide commitment to health, proving that inclusive events can drive lasting change.
