The 1983 World Cup, where India defeated West Indies under Kapil Dev, is a defining moment in Indian cricket. Sunil Gavaskar’s achievement of reaching 10,000 runs in Test cricket also made history.     India secured its first Test match win in 1952 against England, with Vinoo Mankad taking 12 wickets. They also won their first Test series against Pakistan at home that year. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi led the team to its first series win outside Asia in 1967-68. Ajit Wadekar’s captaincy in 1971 saw series wins against West Indies and England. Sunil Gavaskar scored 774 runs in the series, setting a record.

    The 1983 World Cup victory was followed by India’s Asia Cup win in 1987. Sunil Gavaskar reaching 10,000 runs in Tests. The 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia saw a thrilling victory. It was achieved by the collective efforts of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, along with Harbhajan Singh’s bowling.

    Virender Sehwag’s triple century in 2004. He was the first Indian to achieve this feat in Tests. MS Dhoni’s captaincy led India to win the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. The introduction of IPL in 2008 significantly changed T20 cricket.

    Sachin Tendulkar’s double century in 2010 and 100 international centuries are significant achievements. India’s dominance in Test cricket at home from 2013 to 2024. Rohit Sharma’s 264 runs in 2014 set the highest ODI score record. Virat Kohli led India to its first Test series win in Australia. India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
