In a moment of national pride, the Indian women’s cricket team, fresh off their monumental World Cup victory, is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi. This celebratory meeting follows their historic win on Sunday, where they triumphed over South Africa by 52 runs, clinching their maiden World Cup title.

The team arrived in the capital on Tuesday evening and was greeted by a large, jubilant crowd at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The atmosphere is electric as they prepare for their appointment with the Prime Minister this evening. The event is expected to see individual recognition for the players who showcased incredible talent and dedication throughout the prestigious tournament.

Prime Minister Modi had expressed his congratulations following the win, stating on social media that the victory was ‘spectacular’ and would serve as a significant motivation for aspiring young female athletes. The team’s campaign was a testament to their fighting spirit, notably their semi-final upset against Australia. In that match, they successfully chased a daunting 339, with Jemimah Rodrigues scoring a magnificent 127 not out and Harmanpreet Kaur contributing 89 runs.

The final against South Africa saw opener Shafali Verma lead the charge with an 87-run innings, helping India set a target of 298. Despite a brilliant century from the opposing captain, India’s bowling attack, marshaled by Deepti Sharma (Player of the Tournament), proved too strong. The match concluded with Deepti taking the final wicket, a moment capped by a memorable running catch from Harmanpreet Kaur, securing India’s glorious World Cup triumph.
