The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 began with a match between India and Sri Lanka at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. The Indian team, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, achieved a win in the opening match of the tournament, marking a successful start. Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma were key players for India, contributing significantly with both bat and ball.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. India’s innings saw an early dismissal of Smriti Mandhana, who scored 8 runs off 10 balls. Harleen Deol and Pratika Rawal pushed the score to 81, where Rawal scored 37 runs. However, the Indian innings faltered at one point, losing 6 wickets at 124 runs. Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma revived the innings.

Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma formed a partnership of 103 runs for the 7th wicket. Amanjot Kaur scored 57 runs from 56 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. Deepti Sharma scored 53 runs off 53 balls, hitting three boundaries. Sneh Rana remained unbeaten with 28 runs off 15 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes, which brought India to 269 runs for 8 wickets in 47 overs.

Due to rain, Sri Lanka got a target of 271 runs in 47 overs. Sri Lanka started well, with the opening pair adding 30 runs. At one stage, Sri Lanka reached 103 runs for 2 wickets. But Indian bowlers regained control and caused Sri Lanka’s innings to collapse. The whole team was all out after 45.4 overs with 211 runs.

Deepti Sharma was the most successful bowler for India. She took 3 wickets in 10 overs and gave away 54 runs. Sneh Rana and Shri Charni took 2 wickets each. Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, and Pratika Rawal took 1 wicket each.
