India’s Aerial Prowess Grows with 700 New Long-Range Missiles

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to bolster its aerial offensive and defensive capabilities with the planned acquisition of around 700 Astra Mark 2 air-to-air missiles. This next-generation missile, under development by the DRDO, is engineered to achieve an operational range exceeding 200 kilometers. This significant advancement in Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile technology will allow IAF fighter jets, including Sukhois and LCAs, to engage targets from a greater standoff distance. The DRDO’s proposal, awaiting government review, highlights India’s commitment to developing advanced indigenous defense systems.
